The use of medicinal plants for healing dates back to early human civilization in theStone Age.

Dasapushpam is a group of ten herbs have a very important place in the healing andspiritual traditionsof Kerala, India. The name is derived from from Sanskrit, “dasa”meaning “ten”, and “pushpam” meaning “flower”. These sacred herbs were used both in worship and to make medicines.

In ancient times, the ten sacred plants of dasapushpam were displayed In front of thehousehold shrine in a gleaming brass plate during the Malayalam month of Karkidaka (which occurs during the monsoon season in Kerala). Each flower honors a specific
deity. It is also said that doctors for the king (rajavaidyas) prescribed that the women of Kerala wear these flowers in a garland in their hair during Karkidaka to benefit their health.

The Dasapushpam herbs have many curative properties and are widely used in Ayurveda. These herbs can be used effectively in home remedies because of their medicinal properties.
