Dr. Wayne Dyer’s Timeless Tips for Spiritual Success

Dr. Wayne Dyer's Timeless Tips for Spiritual Success.

Dr. Dyer was an internationally renowned author and speaker in the fields od self development and spiritual growth.  He had a doctorate in Counseling and Psychology and soon transitioned into his role as a world teacher and writer

Dr Wayne Dyer who passed away in 2015 at the age of 75 was a popular thinker and writer..  He authored 40 books, of which 20 were New York Times best sellers.

He had many influences, both modern and ancient. Dyer was a student of Abraham Maslow and was impacted by Maslow’s teachings on self-actualization. He also acknowledged Nisargadatta Maharaj and Swami Muktananda to be his teachers. Other thinkers who influenced him greatly include: St Francis of Assisi, Leo Tolstoy, Henry Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson.

The following are Dr Wayne Dyers ten recommendations for effective transformation.
  1. Have a heart that is open to everything but attached to nothing.

” Dyer attributes this teaching to the tenth century tantric and sage, Tilopa..

Dyer suggests that we open our mind to all possibilities and experiences, resist any efforts to be hastily or thoughtlessly defined and refuse to let pessimism into our consciousness.

If we create expectations, they may not always be met.  That can cause resentment and other negative responses.

He also  reminds us that most people go around looking for reasons to be offended. He said, “Our relationships will fail if we require those we are close to, to meet our expectations.”

We are reminded through The Law of Attraction, that the universe  echos back what we give out. If we say, “how may I serve” the universe responds “ how may I serve you as well”

  1. You can’t give away what you do not have (in your life).

At the most basic level, we are unable to share something physical, mental, spiritual or emotional if we don’t already possess it..

” Dyer points out here that we cannot give away love (for others) if we do not have it in our own lives.”

Low energy attracts low energy. Low energy thoughts, such as anger, hate, shame, guilt, and fear, weaken you. And they attract more of the same. By changing your inner thoughts to the higher frequencies of love, harmony, kindness, peace, and joy, you will  attract more of the same, and you will have those higher energies to give away.

  1. There are no justified resentments

Resentment doesn’t change the heart of others,  it only changes yours.  Holding resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.   “If you carry resentments, those resentments will always harm you. You must send blame out of your life. Send love in response to hate.”

.” We just need to understand that we are here because of the choices we made. If we master this basic principle it helps blessings to flow into our lives. “

This idea of taking responsibility for our lives also means that we should not harbor anger or hatred. Dyer cites the Yoga “Sutras” (or aphorisms) of Patanjali who is believed to have said “if you become steadfast in your abstention of thoughts of harm, directed to others, all living creatures will cease to feel enmity in your presence.

  1. Don’t die with your music still in you.” (Thoreau).

Dyer suggests that it is  important  to find your gift and your genius and then  live your life expressing it.  That music that you hear inside of you, urging you to take risks and follow your dreams, is your intuitive connection to the purpose in your heart since birth.Take steps to express yourself. Share your talents and  resources. Be a blessing!

  1. Embrace Silence!

“One power, one force, and one soul. Go into your silence, commune with nature. Be connected to self, know God, and then there will be: Spiritual Awakening.”

Going deep within allows you to access the universal consciousness. Deepak Chopra’s advice to Wayne when he faced a problem was, “Meditate.””The silence between the notes is what makes music.”

  1. Give up your personal history.

Embrace and understand your history . It has brought you to your present time. Then leave it behind and embrace the now.

Dyer says, “if you don’t have a story, you won’t have to live up to it. So embrace your past, and then toss it.””The wake of a boat is just the trail, not the driver of the boat.”

  1. You can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it!”

If you change your mind, you can solve a problem.

“The secret of a personal relationship is to focus on what you love about the person””We are         all here for a purpose.”

  1. Treat yourself as if you are already what you are trying to become.

The more you see yourself as what you’d like to become, and act as if what you want is already there, the more you’ll activate those dormant forces that will collaborate to transform your dream into your reality.

“The ancestor to every action is a thought.”

  1. Treasure your divinity.

You are a divine creation of God. You can never be separate from that which created you.  While you’re separated in your mind from your source; you lose your divine power, the power of your source.

Treasuring your divinity simply means accepting all parts of yourself as having come from       pure, Divine love.

“Know there are no accidents.””We are divine beings.”

  1. Wisdom is avoiding all thoughts that weaken you.

Every single thought you have can be assessed in terms of whether it strengthens or weakens you.

Authentic wisdom is the ability to monitor yourself at all times to determine your relative state of weakness or strength, and to shift out of those thoughts that weaken you.

The most empowering thoughts you can have are those of peace, joy, love, and acceptance.

Shift your thoughts to that which empowers”.

As we go about our day let's keep in mind Dr Dyer's oft cited observation, "Love says I am everything. Wisdom says: 'I am nothing."
